Belle and Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch has been forced to deny accusations that he has slated his fans, following a tweet attacking Spotify.

Initially, his Twitter post stated: “On Spotify graciously deciding to charge its free listeners..are you going to pay the BANDS THAT MAKE THE BASTARD MUSIC IN THE FIRST PLACE!!”

This was reinterpreted by the Evening Times as seeing Murdoch “hit out at the generation who no longer pay for music.”

Murdoch was forced to clarify his stance with a blog post which stated “I’m certainly not against ‘the generation who no longer pay for music.’ That horse has bolted. And hey, I like that horse!”
