Siobhan Wilson, Catholic Action and The Dunts are among the upcoming Scottish bands hit by the cancelation of the world’s largest music networking event, South by South West.
The annual event, which has run annually in Austin, Texas, since 1987, and would have been attended by more than 30,000 delegates, is one of the first music events to be hit by the Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.
This year’s event previously announced a raft of famous names among the thousands of acts taking part, with Beastie Boys, Ozzy Osbourne and Trent Reznor lined up to appear.
However, with these big names already having pulled out over fears of infection, Aaron Smith, Kapil Seshasayee, Kusht, Parliamo, Saint Phnx, Shamanic, Vistas and Walt Disco are among the other Scottish acts who will now miss out on the chance to peddle their wares in front of a worldwide audience of movers and shakers in the music industry, as well as the music fans in an audience that hit 161,000 attendees in 2018.
Tam Coyle, a music consultant who has attended SXSW for 19 consecutive years, said: “just as I finalise my e-mail to the 500+ delegates on my database the devastating news just appears on social media!”
Coyle was in the process of finalising his list of Scottish acts scheduled to appear in Austin from March 13th, which you can see at Scottish Artists at SXSW 2020
