The Proclaimers have been usurped as Scottish football’s ‘goal celebration’ music – by a 1990s rave remix of a tune by a 1960s North London beat combo.

A version of the Dave Clark Five’s ‘Bits & Pieces’ was selected ahead of The Proclaimers’ ‘500 Miles’, which was until now the tune played over the PA if / when Scotland scored.

The new tune, selected via a Twitter poll and also placed ahead of The Fratellis’ ‘Chelsea Dagger’, was played by Calvin Harris during his set at the T in the Park.

Described as a “rave classic”, the 1995 update to the tune was originally released by Artemesia in 1995.

Radio Clyde DJ George Bowie remixed ‘Bits & Pieces’ and it was this new version that Harris played during his Balado set.

20,000 people voted in the SFA poll, and the winning tune received 49% of the vote.

20% selected ‘500 Miles’ and 18% opted for no music at all, ahead of the 13% who wanted to hear ‘Chelsea Dagger’.

Bowie will be at Hampden to hopefully give the track its first airing at a Scotland game if the team can score against Lithunania. The DJ will also perform a DJ set ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier, which kicks off at 19:45.
