Just launched (ok, it spans February, but we’ve been busy, ok?) is Let’s Get Lyrical, a festival celebrating song lyrics and sponsored by the UNESCO schemes that deemed Glasgow a City of Music and Edinburgh City of Literature.
It’s a very much cross-genre event, but among the vaguely indie-schmindie highlights are: Dylan Uncovered on Feb 10th at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms; James Yorkston at Old St Paul’s Church in the same city on Feb 11th performing and reading excerpts from his new book; and Jonny (Norman Blake and Euros Childs) at Platform in Easterhouse on the 19th.
On Feb 24th, at Portobello Library, author Allan Brown talks about his book about the Blue Nile; the following evening (Feb 25th) Alasdair Roberts and Robin Robertson revisit their ‘Ballads Of The Book’ pairing, at St Mark’s Unitarian Church in Edinburgh, and on Feb 27th at The Caves in Edinburgh, A Lyrical Death Match features Emma Pollock and Lord Cut-Glass.
