RockNess music festival has been cancelled for the second year running, it has been confirmed.

The event, held at Dores on the banks of Loch Ness, started in 2006 as a one-day dance-oriented mini-festival headlined by Fatboy Slim, but last year, organisers AEG announced in March that the 2014 incarnation would not take place, citing a clash of dates with the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.

The 2013 fest saw 30,000 attendees over three days three-day festival for headliners Fatboy Slim, Madness, and Basement Jaxx. However, the numbers attending were said to be below capacity by as much as 10,000, casting doubt on the continuation of the event.

The most recent statement on the RockNess Facebook page – from March 2014 – read: “We’d like to thank you for your support over the last eight years.”
