We were saddened to hear of the sad passing of Cerwyss O’Hare – one-time bassist in Macrocosmica.

Dundee-born (nee Ower), and a “fully-qualified” church organist, Cerwyss took up bass guitar and formed Macrocosmica along with Russell MacEwan (now Black Sun) and Gavin Laird (Telstar Ponies, Porch Song Anthology) in 1996. Brendan O’Hare (Teenage Fanclub / Mogwai) joined soon afterwards, and released two full-length albums as well as recording a bunch of EPs and various radio sessions.

Cerwyss remained with the band until its final shows in 2005 which coincided with the launch of final release A Farewell To Earth, by which time Gavin and Russell had left the band, while former Bangtwister members Keith Beacom (drums) and Gordon Brady (guitar) had joined. Cerwyss and Brendan remained in the band throughout and indeed married although they since separated. They had two sons, Henry and George.

Cerwyss passed away peacefully at the Beatson Centre in Glasgow on July 4th. More details can be found here.
