Scottish artist and singer, Susan Philipsz, has won the Turner art prize for 2010, thanks to her sound installation which employs three versions of her version of folk ballad ‘Lowlands Away’ .

She follows in the footsteps of former Correcto member Richard Wright in taking the £25,000 award, although her musical background is much more traditional – and her art is more voice-based than any previous work. Previous works have been based on the banks of the Clyde and around the streets of London, as well as in Germany and Folkstone, but the winning entry saw Philipsz’s voice echo around the Tate Gallery.
