In what would surely have been in the Gig of the Week section if it wasn’t a major news item – the Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival launches its Music Like A Vitamin event on 1st and 2nd Oct.

Curated as it has been for the past three years by Idlewild’s Rod Jones (with the assistance of a few others), the fundraising this time around will be boosted by a compilation album entitled The Fruit Tree Foundation – First Edition.

The release comprises brand new songs written in collaboration by James Graham (Twilight Sad), Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit), Jill O’Sullivan (Sparrow and the Workshop), Karine Polwart, Jenny Reeve, Alasdair Roberts, James Yorkston, Emma Pollock, and Rod Jones (Idlewild).

The songs will all be showcased at two gigs in Glasgow and Edinburgh, on Fri 1st Oct at the HMV Picture House in Edinburgh (with additional solo performances from Karine Polwart, Scott Hutchison, and Broken Record), and then on Sat 2nd Oct at the O2 ABC in Glasgow (with additional solo performances from James Yorkston and Alasdair Roberts

Both shows are £6 (advance) and the album will be available on the night. You can also download a couple of tracks for free at the website,
