King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut has been named among the Top 100 venues in the world in a recent survey.
The Glasgow club, which has been based on St Vincent Street for almost 30 years, made the list compiled by US trade publication Pollstar, based on cumulative ticket sales over the past year.
The venue’s placing at 70th this year in fact tops last year’s performance when it finished in 96th position.
It’s one of only four UK venues to make the list, which includes establishments with capacities of more than 2,500, opposed to Tut’s 300 punter limit.
Tut’s is perhaps best-known for the venue where Oasis were discovered by Creation Records’ Alan McGee, but it has hosted many major acts who have grown into stadium fillers such as Radiohead, Muse, Coldpl and Blur, while The Killers and Snow Patrol both returned to the venue this year to play intimate sets.
Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts, said: “To have King Tut’s listed in the Pollstar Top 100 Club Venues for numerous years running is such a massive deal for the UNESCO City of Music Glasgow, and a fact that the city should rightly be proud of and celebrate.
“It’s great that King Tut’s and other key venues in Glasgow’s music scene are thriving and should continue to do so in the future as our venues are vital for developing future headline acts, bringing various communities together and generating millions of pounds each year for Scottish tourism.”
