Tributes have been paid to former Slik and Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop, who has died, aged 73.
Bandmate in chart-topping act Slik, Midge Ure, posted on X/Twitter: “Just about to board the British Airways flight from JFK and heard my old friend/Slik/Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop has passed way”.
“He lived a lively life! Huge condolences to his friends and family. He was much loved,” Ure added.
Hyslop joined Salvation with Midge Ure in the early 1970s, the act later becoming Slik and having a number one chart hit with ‘Forever and Ever’.
Slik became PVC2, a punk act which releqsed a single ‘Put You In The Picture’ before Ure left and the remaining members including Hyslop formed The Zones. The drummer also played with a variety of acts including The Skids, Set The Tone, and most notably, spent a year with Simple Minds, performing on ‘Promised You a Miracle’.
He then spent time DJing and writing songs for Bay City Roller Les McKeown, before joining blues act Big George and the Business in Canada. When he returned home, he taught drumming at Calton Studios in Glasgow.
Hyslop died on 15 September 2024, reportedly from prostate cancer, having announced the diagnosis earlier in 2024.
