Following a lengthy delay, The Hug and Pint will finally open its doors in June.

Taking its name from the classic Arab Strap album, and run by Brian Reynolds and Colin Campbell, the 100-capacity new(ish) live music venue and bar will be situated at 171 Gt Western Rd – previously home to The Roxy 171, and before that, The Liquid Ship.

The business partners involved are familiar names on the Glasgow music scene – Campbell with The Squid & Whale, and Reynolds still involved with Synergy Concerts and booking this year’s impressive Wickerman Festival lineup (and, for older readers, originally providing management services for anarchic prog-punk combo Lapsus Linguae). The pair had previously planned to open their new venture at the Captain’s Rest premises when that moved to Broadcast on Sauchiehall Street, but were stymied for various reasons and have merely used the Hug and Pint name for gig promotions until now.

The venue – with its logo aptly designed by Aidan Moffat – will be available for hire, via booker Joe Rattray (contactable via on [email protected].) More (well, that logo for now) at www.thehugandpint.com.
