Frightened Rabbit have penned a response to the re-election of Theresa Mays’s government.
On their Soundcloud page, the Selkirk-formed indie quartet posted a track, hashtagged #Fuck The Tories.
Its title is a reference to Theresa May’s much publicised / ridiculed statement that she had been “naughty” when younger, running through crop fields in farmland near her chilhood home. This was before the PM got into politics and got seriously naughty, dismantling the welfare state, somehow losing a number of paedophile dossiers and planning to strip UK citizens of their human rights.
The track contains the lyric: “Fields of wheat / bread and butter on your knees / Pretty soon, apart from the love we give and get back from our families, nothing will be free.”
Of the tune, a solo acoustic number by Scott Hutchison, the band said: “We made this today. It felt like the song should go out now, because it’s about what’s happening now, it’s about where we live and if we waited too long the sentiment could go stale. We don’t want to be too descriptive or conclusive here, our only hope is that you listen, enjoy and share it.”
