The family of Scott Hutchison, the lead singer of Frightened Rabbit, have launched a new mental health charity.

Tiny Changes has been set up in memory of Scott, who died last May, in “an effort to turn this tragedy in to something positive”. by raising awareness and providing support for children and young people’s mental health issues.

Scott often spoke and sang of his own childhood anxiety, and even named the band after the nickname his mother gave him when young.

Brothers Neil and Grant along with parents Ron and Marion launched the charity, saying in a statement:

“Cases of mental illness in young people and children are reaching epidemic levels and go largely unnoticed by a lot of society. We plan to change this trend and stop this problem as early as possible in a person’s life. Scott suffered from anxiety from an early age but like so many there was a lack of support, understanding and awareness of these issues and this is something we will strive to change.”

The charity’s name comes from a lyric from the band’s song ‘Head Rolls Off’ – “While I’m alive, I’ll make tiny changes to earth” – covered by Idlewild at their Barrowlands show a few days ago.
