A new film from Scots director David Mackenzie premieres this Friday (25th February) in Glasgow, and again shows the directors interest in music following his previous releases Hallam Foe and Young Adam. You Instead is a dark rom-com, we’re told, and focuses on the goings-on at T in the Park with respect to two fictional musicians – Adam (of The Make, a globally famous American electro-duo) and Morello (of The Dirty Pinks, an up and coming British punky girl band).

Former Vaselines frontman Eugene Kelly wrote the songs forThe Make, collaboration with Luke Treadaway (the lead male actor) while the music for The Dirty Pinks was written by Perth producer Brian MacAlpine in collaboration with Natalia Tena (the female lead)

The action also takes in some live footage from the festival with the likes of Biffy Clyro, Strike the Colours, Withered Hand and Frightened Rabbit cropping up.
The film has two screenings on Friday at Cineworld on Renfrew St… (aptly, perhaps sited on the old Glasgow Apollo). More at the Cineworld site…
