The Electric Fields festival, which was earlier this year moved from its Dumfriesshire base to Glasgow, has been cancelled.
The three day event – scheduled to take place from July 4th – 6th – had for the past five years been situated at Drumlanrig Castle, in the south-west of Scotland, and has had the likes of Primal Scream, Jesus and Mary Chain, and Frightened Rabbit among its headliners.
However, on April 16th, the organisers announced that the festival was to move to the SWG3 complex in Glasgow’s Finnieston area, citing “rising costs of producing outdoor camping festivals and ongoing logistical & transport challenges.”
Acts who were slated to appear this year included Metromony, Spook School, Kyle Falconer out of The View, Sleaford Mods, Malcolm Middleton, Fat White Family, Vaccines, Frank Turner and Futureheads.
The proposed move was followed by an outcry on social media, particularly as initially only partial ticket refunds were offered. Organisers relented and offered full refunds.
However, it would appear that the changes may have proved too much for the event to survive, as the ticket sales section of www.electricfieldsfestival.com shows states: “This show has been cancelled, please call us on 0161 813 2222 for information on claiming a refund.”
The organisers have since posted a statement on their Facebook page:
