The Scottish leg of that international celebration of all things good in music, Record Store Day, takes place this Saturday (21st April) with live celebrations of vinyl and CD (we suppose) in most of Scotland’s indie record shops.
At Monorail in Glasgow Edwyn Collins heads up a lineup which also includes Human Don’t Be Angry, Snowgoose, Organs Of Love, Dead Flamingos and Linden as well as DJ sets from Keith McIvor (Twitch), Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), Gerard Love (Lightships / Teenage Fanclub), Adele Bethel (Sons & Daughters) and The Brogues (Not Unloved). With a 9am start the shop is promoting a family vibe wth home baking, children’s activities and an art show.

At Lovemusic, there are live sets from Dolalay (a Californian band with a Scots singer, Rebecca Connelly), The Cathode Ray, White Heath, French Wives, Woodenbox, Murderburgers amd Admiral Fallow.

And Insularis Records, being an online label, is using Nice’n’Sleazy as its showcase base with sets from Holy Mountain (who are launching their album), Call to Mind, Any Colour Black, Withered Hand, What the Blood Revealed and Adam Stafford.

In Edinburgh, Avalanche include performances from Withered Hand at 2pm and Gordon from Ballboy at 3pm. They will be playing vinyl in store thanks to decks supplied by retailer James-Morrow who are based nearby in Tollcross.
In the evening the fun moves to The Electric Circus with The Last Battle, Emily Scott, and appropriately, Star Wheel Press, whose album was the shop’s biggest seller of 2011.

And there will be vinyl for sale as well – among the artists who have special editions for Record Store Day are Abba, Flaming Lips / Mastodon, Admiral Fallow, David Bowie, Belle & Sebastian, Emeli Sande, Bob Dylan, Twin Atlantic and Edwyn Collins – among well over 300 other exclusive releases or editions. Worth bearing in mind that not all of these will be stocked by your local store!
