One of Dundee’s longest-standing music venues has shut down.

Following an abundance of internet rumours, the Ward Road establishment closed its doors just before Christmas.

It had previously moved from its Brown Street premises, not far from where another staple of the early 00s scene, The Westport, was also originally based. The Doghouse hosted the annual multiband Dogfest events during what was the Dundee underground’s heyday, but relocated to to Ward Road in 2009 after the old Brown Street building was sold to the Fuller Thomson chain and became Duke’s Corner.

The new venue then kept up old traditions and indeed saw the likes of The View and The Law play early shows at the venue. Touring acts like King Creosote and The Twilight Sad also performed there as recently as last year.

The Courier spoke to owner Sarah Hillwho blamed the current financial climate for the closure.
