Glasgow trio Chvrches are to launch the new BBC Scotland channel, which goes live this weekend.
This means that vocalist Lauren Maybury will be the first voice to be heard on the new station, at Sunday 24th February at 7pm.
The band, which also features former Aereogramme / The Unwinding Hours guitarist Iain Cook, and Martin Docherty, a touring member of The Twilight Sad, will team up with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to perform a new version of ‘Miracle’.
The performance will be accompanied by “a visual celebration of contemporary Scotland” – a video backdrop of images of Scottish people and places titled ‘Beginning’, featuring 76 musicians performing at the Old Fruitmarket and directed by George Samson.
Iain Cook of Chvrches said: “From a musician’s point of view, getting to work with an incredible orchestra and to hear our song arranged by a really talented orchestrator – the whole thing was appealing to us on many levels.”
Among the other musical items on the channel include the opening programme – ‘A Night At The Theatre’, featuring Lewis Capaldi and Nina Nesbitt, and hosted by Iain Stirling (known as the voice of Love Island).
However, aside from this, and a reality-style show where Emeli Sandé’s ‘Street Symphony’ selects five buskers to play with an orchestra, there is little music programming announced so far.
