KT Tunstall, Annie Lennox, plus members of Mogwai, Chvrches, and Belle and Sebastian are to join a host of Scottish stars of stage and screen in a mammoth online fundraiser for the provision of healthcare equipment.
On Wednesday 22nd April, from 6-9pm, actors, authors and celebrities such as Peter Capaldi, James McAvoy, Irvine Welsh, Martin Compston, Alan Cumming, Ally McCoist, Sir Chris Hoy, Judy Murray, Mark Bonnar, Ian Rankin, Peter Mullan, and Sanjeev Kohli will also take part.
Hosted by Edith Bowman, the three-hour livestream fundraiser ‘For the Love of Scotland’ will also feature music from Rachel Sermani and Blue Rose Code.
Twin Atlantic’s Sam McTrusty is another act on the bill, and will be performing three covers – the favourite tracks of his mother, wife and sister, who all work for the NHS.
Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite and Stuart Murdoch out of Belle and Sebastian are also set to appear, as are Janey and Ashley Godley, Richard Rankin, Sam Heughan, Ncuti Gatwa, Jack Lowden, Jean Johansson, and Lorne Balfe.
As well as music, literature, poetry and chats with these stars, there will be stories submitted from the public about the community spirit being seen across the country during the COVID-19 crisis.
The Masks for Scotland crowdfunding initiative was founded by Professor Jill Belch of the University of Dundee, in response to the urgent need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for community frontline medical teams across Scotland.
100% of the money raised will fund the provision of PPE for key workers across the country, and with Masks for Scotland already raising over £80,000 in just over a week, the first orders of PPE are set to arrive in Scotland this week.
Creator and host Edith Bowman said: “I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am to all the people who are helping us out and giving up their time. Now we just have to do it!”
