Fairport Convention, Calexico and King Creosote are among the acts confirmed for Celtic Connections next January.
The lineup announced for the two-week celebration of all things, er, musical and Celtic also includes a theme of musicians no longer with us with tribute nights planned for Martyn Bennett, Ewan MacColl, Rory Gallagher and Pipe Major Donald MacLeod.
Celebrating the collaboration of music and screen will be film composer Craig Armstrong, who will revisit some of his cinematic work including Moulin Rouge, Great Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet and will feature the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. Plus, recent documentary film From Scotland With Love will be performed with a live score by King Creosote and a nine-piece band.
Also in the lineup are Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Patty Griffin, Lambchop performing ‘Nixon’ (would have preferred ‘Hank’ but there you go), plus Shooglenifty, Eddi Reader, Treacherous Orchestra, Punch Brothers, Dick Gaughan, Blazin’ Fiddles, The Pierces, Skerryvore, and many many more (really).
Plus, there’s a collection of gigs that highlight the stories of hand made instruments from across the world.
Celtic Connnections runs from 15th January – 1st February – more at www.celticconnections.com
