Glasgow’s venue geography is to get a shake-up in September. The Captain’s Rest, currently on Great Western Road, is moving premises, to Sauchiehall Street. It will be situated where The Local is currently, forming a curious trio of music-based pubs with Box and Nice’n’Sleazy.
The Captain’s former premises will operate under new management and be renamed The Hug and Pint (making Arab Strap’s album title flesh; well, bricks and mortar). September 28th – a Friday, oddly enough – is the opening date slated for the new venture for its team. The trio taking over are Brian Reynolds, currently at The Arches and formerly of the Barfly and manager of Lapsus Linguae among many other roles in the Glasgow scene. Joining him are Andrew Maitland, also coming from The Arches, and Iain Quimby formery a member of Take a Worm for a Walk Week.
