St Andrews’ Byre Theatre has announced that it is to close, within the next 10 days.
The venue, well known locally as a community arts venue but also a regular host of gigs by often Fence-related artists, had £5M of work done on it in 2001 and has regularly received grants to keep it afloat. However, an annual grant from the former Scottish Arts Council ended in 2011.
Five shows which were part of the ongoing Fife Jazz Festival will now take place at St Andrews Town Hall.
A campaign to Save The Byre Theatre has been launched, as has a twitter account, @SavetheByre.
