Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite has released a free-to-download track, ‘Never Come Home’.

The tune stems from a poetry competition launched by Scottish Book Trust Reader in Residence Jane Graham, inspired by the ghostly story of the village of Bothwellhaugh, which was abandoned and then submerged in the 1970s to make way for Strathclyde Loch. (The remains of the village can still be seen through the water, echoing the town in French drama Les Revenants which Mogwai soundtracked).
The competition was judged by the Manic Street Preacher Nicky Wire and poets Liz Lochhead and Ian McMillan, and the winning poem, ‘Never Come Home’ by North Lanarkshire’s Catherine Baird, was read by actress Shirley Henderson and soundtracked by Stuart Braithwaite.
