Planned new Glasgow venue The Hug and Pint has hit a setback as the new owners of the Great Western Road venue have announced that the property at number 185 was no longer available to them, despite previous reports.
The Captain’s Rest, which is set to move to Sauchiehall Street – just along from Nice’n’Sleazy’s – will now be sold to a brewery (the old building, that is, not the ‘business’, which will move to where The Local is – confused? it’s like Sevco all over again)

The prospective owners of the Hug and Pint posted the following message on their Facebook page:
“We are disappointed to announce that The Hug and Pint will not be launching at 185 Gt Western Rd. We made an agreement with the property owner on 13th July to lease the venue for 5 years from September. We finalized the details of this agreement at the end of August. Unfortunately, the landlord has decided to go back on our agreement in order to sell the venue to a brewery company. Throughout this process we have received a phenomenal amount of support from the people of Glasgow and our community of musicians, promoters, agents, engineers, gig-goers and friends. For this we thank you dearly. We will continue to promote concerts independently whilst we find a new location.”

This means that a variety of shows including gigs by Ugly Duckling, Jens Leckman and Ken Stringfellow have had to be moved to differnt venues – details at www.thehugandpint.co.uk
