Belle and Sebastian are to officially launch the newly refurbished Kelvingrove Bandstand with a “party” at the open-air venue on July 23rd. It ties in with another gig on the other side of the city, as Emma Pollock and RM Hubbert rub shoulders with Lulu and Eddi Reader, all among the acts performing at Glasgow Green to mark the opening of the Commonwealth Games. Also on the bill are Roddy Hart, and Rab Noakes.

Tickets for the Belles’ show at the £2M refurbished West End venue – which has already seen live action with Samba Ya Bamba and which will by then have hosted a run of shows including a sold-out Teenage Fanclub set on the 15th – go on sale on June 4th, via Ticketmaster (so have a flask of coffee, or something stronger, at hand). Tickets are £25 – a fiver more then Lulu and chums – though doubtless when they sell out you can get some from the many legalised touts associated with the vendor.

The bandstand will also host music for the closing of the Games on August 3rd with a new commission from the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, performing with Tam Dean Burn, as well as Corey Mwamba. That’s a tenner!
