Avalanche Records, the Edinburgh record shop which recently celebrated its 30th birthday, has announced that it will close the doors of its Grassmarket store on March 1st.
Owner Kevin Buckle has detailed on his blog that the long-standing name, which in the halcyon days of the record industry had five outlets in the capital alone, will depart its current location, saying: “I’ve set a date with the landlord for leaving.”
Whether the shop will remain in physical form in the Grassmarket area or simply online is unclear – Buckle says: “There have been several attempts to persuade me to stay”, although there is also the possibility of the shop returning to its label roots via reissues of classic albums by the likes of The Vaselines, Shop Assistants and the BMX Bandits.
