Over 30,000 people have signed a petition calling for the late-night licence of The Arches nightclub to be reinstated. And leading acts including Slam, Chvrches, Felix Da Housecat and Jackmaster have spoken out in support of the venue.

Glasgow City Council’s licensing board have placed a midnight curfew on events at the city centre venue, following police complaints about drug use and alcohol-related offences on the premises.

As well as a major music and clubbing destination, The Arches houses arts and theatre space as well as a restaurant and cafe. However, it is feared that the cancellation of popular late night / early morning events will lead to a damaging loss of revenue would could force the venue as a whole to close.

Last year the minimum age for admission at the club was raised to 21 following the death of a 17-year-old reveler. However, Police Scotland have pursued the removal of the venue’s licence, in what the petition describes as “months of harassment”.
