La Belle Angele, the Edinburgh venue which burned down in the Cowgate fire of 2002, has reopened.

The Hastie’s Close club ran for 10 years from 1992, staging landmark shows from the likes of Oasis and The Libertines, but in 2002 a fire in the city’s Cowgate blazed for over two days solid. After the flames had been tackled, the venue was demolished after being irreparably weakened by the fire and water damage.

An Ibis Hotel has since been built on the site with the revived La Belle Angele underneath.

Original owner Hafid Mahboub has teamed up again with Martin Coull, the original manager, and the pair are keeping the revival theme going with original features such as the red walls.

The capacity will be around 550 and the main stage will take up to a ten piece band.

The ‘new’ venue is to ease itself back into the scene gently, with confirmed shows for Gorgon City on November 28 and The Beards on December 13. More at www.facebook.com/LaBelleAngele.
