Solas Festival, which was scheduled to take place on the three-day Midsummer weekend of June 19th, has instead put in place plans for a virtual version of the popular annual event.

Instead of appearing live at Errol Park in Perthshire, a variety of acts including Admiral Fallow, Hamish Hawk, Stanley Odd and Carla J. Easton will appear from their homes in an online version of the event.

The programme kicks off on Friday night with Pádraig Ó Tuama’s storytelling event, Tenx3, before a full programme on Saturday 20th, including a 9am morning yoga session with Mark Russell, more activities for kids including a storytelling session with Mara Menzies, and in the afternoon, playwright David Greig will host a panel: ‘Not Going Back to Normal: Visions of a Post Lockdown Scotland’.

There’s a full hour of music from 6pm on the Saturday with the aforementioned headliners joined by Kapil Seshasayee, DopeSickFly, Parliamo, Zoe Graham, Ewan MacIntyre Band, Iain Morrison, Brighde Chaimbeul, Bruach, Supa & Da Kryptonites and Suzanne Butler.

later that evening there’s a premiere of a collaboration between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Choir, Mary Ann Kennedy, Karine Polwart, Sam Lee, Raghu Dixit, Dave Hook, Sorren Maclean, Hannah Fisher, Finlay Wells, Mischa Macpherson, Ankna Arockiam, Nick Turner, Lies Damned Lies, and, they say, YOU. That’s followed by a livestream show by Tinderbox Orchestra plus special guests, including The Jellyman’s Daughter, EBB and No Moniker.

Sunday will again kick off with yoga for anyone who’s been glued to their sofa all weekend, and children’s entertainer Mr Boom will appear just before Issey Illustrates will somehow bring festival favourite of live portrait painting to the (very) small screen.

At 4:30pm: Pádraig Ó Tuama hosts an ‘in conversation’ event with Ross Wilson of Blue Rose Code, and the evening winds down – or rather, doesn’t, since at 7pm, a virtual ceilidh will offer the finale to the weekend. The organisers echo our own take on this part of the festival: “How does that work?! You’ll have to see it to believe it, but we promise it will be great!”
