The Pastels have re-emerged after years in the wilderness (or possibly behind the counter) with the announcement of a new album, their first since their 2003 soundtrack to David Mackenzie’s film The Last Great Wilderness. (If you wanted to get really pernickity then you might say it’s the first proper album since 1997’s Illumination, but that would imply Blue Nile levels of effort, and we like what they’ve done with Monorail, so we’ll not).

Anyway, the album was recorded in Glasgow, with A Band Called Quinn’s Bal Cooke, and mixed in Chicago by John McEntire out of Tortoise, and should be out sometime in 2013. Though all the evidence we have so far is this video trailer, by Blair Young from The Forest Of Black.
