Start your week with a nice choice of heritage rock… pop? Anyway, on Monday June 27th, in Glasgow, it’s Brian Wilson out of the Beach Boys, at the Armadillo, or Gladys Knight at the Royal Concert Hall.

OnTuesday 28th, Graham Costello’s STRATA play Bloc+, while in Edinburgh, St. Vincent is at the Usher Hall.

On Wednesday, almost five years to the week that their last attempt to play open-air in Glasgow was cancelled at the last minute off, Green Day, with Fall Out Boy and Weezer in tow, are at Bellahouston Park. Hopefully the rain will stay off this time…

Sensibly under cover, the Legendary Shack Shakers are at Audio, and Adam Ant plays the Royal Concert Hall.

On Thursday 31st it’s the first of two nights for Primal Scream at Queen’s Park Recreation Ground, which begs the question: where are the local amateur football teams going to play? (Maybe like the band, that’s an 80s thing?)
In the city centre, Michael Cassidy plays The Blue Arrow, while Walthamstow’s finest The Bevis Frond are at Stereo, and Adam Ant moves north for a show at the Music Hall in Aberdeen.

Falkirk’s finest, Pleasure Heads, make the short journey up the M9 and off at the Lathallan Roundabout (presumably) as they head to Bathgate for a gig at the Midnight Breakfast Club.

Up north, even for the Highland quartet, Tide Lines have a show at Tain Links, while closer to civilisation, Michael Cassidy‘s meanderings take him to Mad Hatters in Inverness.

This weekend it’s the big one, but long since sold out, so don’t know why we’re mentioning it really… anyway, Howlin’ Fling – Pictish Trail‘s Island Family Gathering – takes place at the Isle of Eigg Community Hall on Friday and Saturday.

In Edinburgh, on Saturday Meursault are at Summerhall, and more Highland action – Duran Duran are at Inverness Caley’s stadium.

Also doing the stadium rock thing on Saturday night, and on the hallowed turf rather than the red blaes, Calvin Harris is at Hampden Park.

In Aberdeen on Saturday 1st, Michael Cassidy plays Cafe Drummond, while back in Glasgow, Outblinker, plus Gravelle, are at Nice n’ Sleazy.

Kathryn Joseph plus Lizabett Russo, play the new-to-us venue Galgael, which we at least know is in Glasgow. Govan, in fact?

Finally, on Sunday, more the Highlands are again the centre of the gigging action with Texas are at The Big Top in Inverness Bught Park. And in Glasgow, at G2, Jedward. Yup.

As per last week, we’re into that time of year that seems to offer at least one festival per week – but first, Monday June 13th sees Peaches play Glasgow’s SWG3.

The following night – well, wondering why there’s no Tim’s Twitter Listening Parties this week? That’s because Tim Burgess is on tour, including a date at St Luke’s & The Winged Ox in Glasgow on Tuesday 14th. Same night, same city, Billie Eilish plays the OVO Hydro.
In Edinburgh, the Beck show scheduled for the midst of Covid has arrived, but moved from the Usher Hall to (it’s-really-the-Liquid-Room) the O2 Academy.

Plenty of varied musical action in the capital on Wednesday 15th – Dionne Warwick plays the Usher Hall, The Jellyman’s Daughter are at The Caves, and The Damned (current lineup – the ‘classic’ 1977 quartet return later in the year) are at the Assembly Rooms.
In Glasgow, Parquet Courts‘ Barrowland show has been moved, so head to SWG3 (Galvanizers, apparently). Or if you prefer, Dutch Wine are at Bar Bloc+.

Also, Brownbear is back, with a show at P.J. Molloy’s in Dunfermline on Thursday 16th and also in Fife – Glenrothes to be exact – at the Rothes Hall, former Cockney Rebel frontman Steve Harley.

In Edinburgh, the Hidden Door is already under way and its second weekend includes Bug Club, Future Get Down, Buffet Lunch, Girl Ray, Dry Cleaning, and Lonelady on Thursday 16th; Dana Gavanski, This is The Kit, The Joy Hotel and an OK Pal Records showcase on Friday 17th. And Saturday 18th’s finale’s includes Kaputt, Warm Duscher, Cheap Teeth, Midi Paul and the Reverse Engineer.

On Friday 17th, Katherine Aly plays Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s, while in Glasgow, Scheme – famous for being the first unsigned band to sell out the Apollo – play the first of a couple of nights at the almost-as-legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut. And in Greenock, Pleasure Heads play the Oyo Gin House Hotel,

Speaking of which, Goodbye Mr MacKenzie will doubtless fill the Barrowland again on Friday, while Blue Rose Code should do likewise in the rather more intimate Baljaffray Parish Church in Bearsden.

From Friday 17th – Sunday 19th, at Errol Park in Perth, Solas Festival is back after its enforced two-year break – with Stanley Odd, Don Kipper, Eliza Shaddad, Kris Drever, Brass Aye?, Callum Easter, Dopesickfly, Lewis McLaughlin and Tinderbox Orchestra among the acts performing.

And on Saturday 18th, a one day event in Dalkeith Country Park – Let’s Rock Scotland offers quite the selection of ‘retro’ acts (their description) with Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Squeeze the biggest names, but with a selection of other old favourites like The Selecter, Tenpole Tudor, Nick Heyward, Pigbag, Musical Youth, Scritti Politti and also a few you might have forgotten – Tiffany, Five Star and Level 42 among them.

Getting a mention (1) because it’s the only gig in Dumfries this week – at the Loreburn Hall – and (2) because the band concerned are called The Brass Funkeys.

Also on Saturday 18th, in Edinburgh, The Little Kicks launch their new single (and video), ‘Ruminations’, at The Voodoo Rooms, and The Wonder Stuff are at the O2 Academy in Glasgow.

Finally, the ideal post-festival comedown for anyone who’s made it home early – The Orb are at SWG3 in Glasgow.
