the 2008 jockrock poll
Here are the top 10s as selcted by the itm? and jockrock crew. And, the chance to agree, or otherwise. See our top 10s as 'suggestions'. If your favourite isn't in the list, instead cast your vote for them in the text box. We'll tot the votes up and let you know your winners sometime in January.
Don't forget to enter your email address otherwise your vote won't count -and multiple votes will be ignored. This is for checking purposes only - tempting though it is, we're not gathering email addresses this year (if you want to subscribe to our newsletters then just send us a mail)

Top band: Frightened Rabbit
It’s pretty clear whose year it is. Selkirk’s most famous musical export - and as it happens, last year’s runner-up ‘newcomer’ - just about swept the board.

It’s Ms Pollock again, and quite rightly too say us... but encouraging that there are a whole 9 runners-up!

Top male solo: Malcolm Middleton
A two-way fight at the top of the chart seperated by fractions of a vote, so it’s apt that the two have recorded versions of each other’s songs. And more apt that last year’s top 2 are reversed!

album: Frightened Rabbit - Midnight Organ Fight
This again came down to the two bigest-hitters - one lauded by the man who discovered Oasis, the other massively popular with the cool kids in the USA. What this says about the writers here we’re not sure, but worthy winners the Rabbit are.

Live act: We Were Promised Jetpacks
Perhaps the tightest and widest-ranging category, embracing fight pop, folk, electro, and death metal wearing a pig nose. We’re still not sure how the winners managed to do so making good old indie rock, we can only assume it’s because they’re a stunning live act

newcomer: The Phantom Band
Ah, the ‘newcomer’. Yes, the really cool readers will point out that they’d seen half the contenders here umpteen times before 2005. Well, we did receive nominations for Glasvegas and Popup as well but discounted these. Instead, let’s say ‘bands likely to make it big next year’. Our winners, with an album on Cheiukal Underground due, are, we believe, likely to do just that.

Inevitable that the jockrock and itm? writers’ block vote should come into play here. But when you’re in a venue like this, whether watching or putting on shows over the space of a decade, we can’t think of a better place for live music.

Wicker is becoming as regular a fixture on the festival map as T, so fitting that the friendly Dundrennan festival should be recognised (not that it hasn’t been before of course!)
